An individual who spiked candy with tranquilliser and gave them to minors at a summer camp in the area has confessed to sexual offenses against two children both nine and ten years old.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and a grown-up fell ill at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on recently.

However, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was involving a young boy.

Ruben was held in detention ahead of a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Treat game'

Mary Prior KC, handling the case, detailed the criminal behavior to the court.

She stated his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer camp which he managed.

The man conducted a "treat game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".

She told the court the man had played this game with the children "for many years", and minors had previously fallen ill the following morning.

She said the defendant had been able to explain this over a long period as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had worries in summer 2025.

Mrs Prior KC continued: "Recently" his stepson had suspicions about what was going on, with valid cause.

"They resolved" to investigate in the individual's items."

The prosecutor explained materials including infant oil, Vaseline and syringes were discovered, and his stepson alerted the police about his worries.

She said the defendant continued to conduct the "treat game" with six youngsters that time - that Saturday - and they were all sick the next day.

"The police had not responded by that point," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the events.

The prosecutor said the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson notified the authorities a second time.

She said the defendant then engaged in the "candy game" in a area of five minors.
