Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hardcourt

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his initial title for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has had a challenging period, achieving just one win at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in specific - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with former coach his previous coach.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

It is his initial trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface since March of that year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 various events.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my children at once, so to win a championship is really nice," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my child her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, featuring in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had caused observers to doubt if his capacity to play at the elite level was over.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete positively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, taking 4 of the final five games to gain the advantage.

Both players traded service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first professional championship, took control to push for a third set.

Moutet defended 4 early-game break points in a tight final set before Medvedev broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner clinched victory with a rally at the net, with Moutet incapable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
